It's Not A Cloud!

The phrase The Cloud conjures up an image of a mysterious entity that is ubiquitous and ever present. Like an actual cloud, it's found up above us, an image that is reinforced by such phrases as a swiss army knife in the shape of a cloud uploading to the cloud. But The Cloud is not actually a cloud, which seems like a pretty obvious statement to make. The point is that The Cloud is not some magical and mysterious thing. It is in fact a huge collection of super powerful computers (processing power) and hard discs (storage) that are connected to the Internet.

These super power computers and hard discs are housed in mammoth buildings called Data Centres. These Data Centres are designed and built specifically to house this kit and huge amounts of it! With really fast and numerous internet connections that enable millions of people to connect to the equipment inside all at once. People and organisations can use these computers and hard discs to run any applications and/or store any data they need to.

infrastructure is already there in these huge data centres, therefore organisations don't have to purchase or commission it to start using it. Additionally organisations who use these facilities only pay for what they use when they use it, saving so much time, effort and most importantly money. You might be wondering how you even begin.
